When booking, please take note anything you need to bring to the class. This will be outlined in the information below.

PLEASE NOTE:

  • You will also need to purchase a ticket to the Stitches & Craft Show for the day of your class.
  • These classes need a minimum number of participants to proceed. If a class does not go ahead, fees will be refunded in full, and advice sent seven days before the class date.

Fashion Illustration

Suits all levels

Fee: $58 including the Studio Faro Kit containing:

•   A copy of the Studio Faro Fashion Illustration Template (3) with back views.
•   An eight-head height figure for production sketching.
•   Two practice sheets on specialist paper for marker pens.
•   Specialist paper and card for the illustration and presentation of your work.
•   An A3 portfolio sleeve to protect and transport your work.
•   A detailed fashion illustration worksheet with colour theory, examples of technique and the use of colour to invigorate your illustration.
•   A list of materials and suppliers for illustration.

The idea behind the Fashion Illustration class is to build the tools and skills required to produce industry quality fashion illustrations. Fashion templates are provided for students to practice sketching and rendering colour and texture in a supportive environment.

There are demonstrations and practice sessions in the use of different colour and media to create depth, movement and print effects in the illustration. And finally, demonstrations of simple presentation techniques to achieve a professional look in your fashion portfolio.

Studio Faro provides all the art materials for this exciting workshop: Work with the best in Copic Pens. Learn about specialist art papers. Understand the use of high quality pastel pencils. Your finished project will be laid-up and presented on black art card, ready to include in your portfolio. An A3 sleeve is provided for you to protect and carry your work. Take home a detailed workbook for future reference and a comprehensive materials and suppliers listing featuring Anita’s favourite sources.

Please bring: Sharp pencils (HB) or a propelling pencil, eraser, glue stick, paper scissors and a ruler. Please wear shoes that cover and protect your feet. It’s a workshop environment and we’re keen to keep your toes safe.

Corset Pattern Making

Fee: $58 including the Studio Faro Kit containing:

•   A copy of the Studio Faro Corset Block.
•   Specialist patternmaking paper for the class exercises.
•   A detailed pattern making worksheet with several corset designs and a photo tutorial with construction information for a fashion corset and a list of suppliers for corset materials and trims.

The Studio Faro Corset Block is the outcome of a pattern-making project for a local designer. Designed and fitted to meet industry standards, it’s a favourite with local makers and textile teachers. During this Studio Class you will use the Corset Block to produce a Corset pattern with design features that may include tucks, fullness and interesting seam lines.

Via teacher demonstrations and using our detailed pattern instructions you will make a corset pattern. There will be several designs to choose from in the course materials.

You will learn patternmaking techniques for introducing tucks, drape and fullness into your corset patterns. You will understand the best use of grain in your corset patterns and the most effective seam allowances for your pattern. You will take home a completed Corset Pattern, patternmaking instructions for future projects, an understanding of fashion corset construction and a list of suppliers for corset materials and trims.

Painting: Inspirations from Nature

Fee: $87 includes watercolour papers, droppers, brushes and artists materials to incorporate into the artworks.

Learn to paint from blooms, boughs and leaves. Discover your own style using watercolour, inks, pastels and more. Capture the joy of that flower, leaf or pattern. This is a gorgeous class that teaches you skills to build on forever.

Fiona Kate’s watercolours are a delight to the eye. In her classes you will learn some easy techniques to encourage your own artistic expression and also allow the watercolour medium to work its magic.

Screen Printing & Fabric Design Workshop

Suits beginner to advanced everyone welcome

Fee: $190 includes a screen and squeegee made in Australia to Saffron’s measurements, as well as a metre of natural fabric specially prepared for printing.

Join Saffron Craig as she shares her years of fabric design experience. You will learn everything you need to know about designing your own fabric. Saffron will show you how to design and draw your own motifs and then screen-print your design onto fabric, creating your own unique textiles.

She will also show you how to mix any colour to create exciting and unique colour palettes.

Saffron has years of experience teaching this class and has loads of tips and tricks to share.

Please bring: where possible please bring along paper, pens, scalpel, cutting mat, scissors, fabric, sponge, spoons, tablecloth to protect your work surface, old tea towel for you to wipe your fingers on, apron to protect your clothing.

Hand Painting Fabric Workshop

Suits beginner to advanced everyone welcome

Fee: $84 includes a kit of products: Linen fabric and Inks

Learn how to hand paint fabric with designer Saffron Craig. In this workshop you will learn everything you need to know about hand painting fabrics drawing from Saffron’s extensive experience. Join this workshop to so that you can create your very own unique fabrics.

Saffron will also explain how to mix the inks and demonstrate how to mix
any colour while helping you to create interesting original colour palettes for your design.

Important: Please preorder kits so Saffron can order the fabrics.

Where possible please bring along: newspaper, pens, paint brushes, scissors, fabric, sponge, spoons, plastic table cloth to protect your work surface, old tea towel for you to wipe your fingers on.

Jersey Twist Patterns

with Anita McAdam

Suits students who have basic sewing skills and have used commercial patterns

Fee: $58 including the Studio Faro Kit containing:

• A copy of the Studio Faro Knit Block with Sleeve.
•   Specialist patternmaking paper.
•   A detailed worksheet with pattern making instructions for the Jersey Twist top and two other twist designs.
•   A list of local suppliers for materials and trims.

The Jersey Twists are a constant favourite on Anita’s blog ‘well-suited’. Using the Studio Faro Basic Knit block, students will learn the pattern manipulation necessary to make a Jersey Twist Top pattern.

During this Studio Class you will be introduced to Anita’s Knit Block for industry and use it to cut a Jersey Twist pattern. Samples, working examples and ready patterns will be available for students to understand the concepts involved. Anita will clearly demonstrate every step of the process.

• You will cut a Jersey Twist pattern from an industry ready knit block.
• You will learn how to locate the twist feature in your pattern block to suit your new design.
• You will learn how to calculate the amount of extra fabric required in twist drapes to suit your personal fit.
• You will learn the most appropriate seam allowances for stretch sewing and finishing techniques.
• You will receive a comprehensive materials and suppliers listing featuring Anita’s favourite sources.
